Bruce A. Whisler, Associate Professor Emeritus, received his Bachelor’s degree in music and mathematics from North Park College in 1966, and his Ph.D. in musicology from the Eastman School of Music of the University of Rochester in 1974. He joined the UCF faculty in 1971. During the next 18 years he developed and taught a variety of courses in music history and literature. He served as President of the Southern Chapters of both the College Music Society and the American Musicological Society, and also held offices in the Central Florida Music Teachers Association and the Florida State Music Teachers Association.

After serving as Chair of the Department of Music (1985-89), he worked in a variety of other administrative positions. For nine years (1989-1998), he served as Assistant Dean and then Associate Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, where he handled budget and space issues. After his retirement from full-time employment in 2001, he worked part-time doing budget work for the Office of Academic Affairs and for the UCF Regional Campuses. He retired fully in 2005, but returned briefly to serve as Interim Director of the Nicholson School of Communication in 2008-2009. He is currently enjoying his third retirement, and says he may or may not remain retired. Stay tuned.
