Jeff Rupert is a  Trustee Chair, Pegasus Professor, and Director of Jazz Studies at UCF. He is a saxophonist, composer, record producer, and recording artist.

Rupert has been a featured soloist on dozens of recordings with artists including  Sam Rivers, Mel Tormé, Diane Schuur, Benny Carter and Maynard Ferguson. His most recent recording The Ripple with legendary saxophonist George Garzone released in September, 2019. He played on Benny Carter's Harlem Renaissance which won a Grammy. . He has also performed with Kevin Mahogany, Ernestine Anderson, Joe Farnsworth, Ray Drummond, Harry Allen, pianist Benny Green, Kenny Drew jr, trumpeter Michael Philip Mossman, and pianist and singer Judy Carmichael.

 Rupert has several releases under his own name including "Lets Sail Away" with Veronica Swift (2017)and "Imagination" (2016) and "R&D" (2018)with pianist Richard Drexler. Rupert currently is the leader of The Jazz Professors, a sextet which had top JazzWeek charting hit albums in 2012-2015. "The Jazz Professors: Live at the UCF-Orlando Jazz Festival" (Flying Horse, 2011) which and peaked at #19 during its seventeen weeks on the JazzWeek charts. His third album, "From Memphis to Mobile", with Kenny Drew, Jr.

Rupert joined Sam Rivers' band in 1996 and appeared in four recordings with the group. He has performed in hundreds of concerts with Rivers, including performances at Lincoln for Ed Bradley's Jazz from Lincoln Center (broadcast on NPR), the Vision Festival NYC and Columbia University. He has been a member of the Jaguar International Jazz Series alongside Joe LaBarbera, Tom Wharington, Larry Koonse, and John Fedchock. Most recently he performed with Michael Philip Mossman and John Riley at the Taipei National Concert Hall, Taiwan.

He has played at jazz festivals around the world, with dates in Europe, Scandinavia, Japan, Taiwan, Israel, South America, Australia, and New Zealand.

As a Music Educator

As Pegasus professor, Trustee Chair and Director of Jazz Studies at the University of Central Florida Rupert spearheaded the BM Jazz Studies track at UCF, and recruited a top-drawer faculty that includes legendary jazz drummer Marty Morell, trumpeter Dan Miller Richard Drexler, Per Danielsson, and Bobby Koelble. He directs The Flying Horse Big Band, which began as the UCF Jazz Ensemble 1. The Flying Horse big band released its 6th album in as many years for Flying Horse Records, entitled Good NewsThe album is currently charting on three jazz charts, to #4. In 2013 the UCF Flying Horse big band performed at the Jazz Education Network Convention in Atlanta, and in 2005, the band performed a world premier for double big band composed by Sam Rivers, commissioned by UCF Music and UCF African American Studies. The work featured Rivers and his RIVBEA orchestra with the UCF Jazz Ensemble.  Rupert also teaches the Jazz Workshop and serves as a the private instructor/mentor to selected jazz saxophone students at the university. 

Rupert is a frequent clinician for festivals, college, high school, and middle school music performance assessments (MPAs) and music education clinics for music educators at events like the Florida Music Educators Association annual conference in Tampa, FL. In addition, Rupert has directed numerous all-state jazz bands, and the Jazz Band of America, in 2017. 

As a Producer

Rupert is the founder of Flying Horse Records, a record label created to promote the talent of both the students and the recording artists in the faculty of the University of Central Florida's Jazz Studies program, and a keystone of the rising Jazz department's mission to make the university's Jazz department a launching point for modern jazz artists. Flying Horse Records eighth  jazz album Big Man On Campus reached #5 on the NACC jazz charts, and was simultaneously on all three jazz charts for fifteen weeks. Rupert has produced several records featuring his students in the UCF Jazz Ensemble 1. Their recording Jazz Town topped out at 43 on the JazzWeek chart. The Blues Is Alright, their 2013 release, reached # 35

He founded and produces the UCF Orlando Jazz Festival, which has been broadcast by Dee Dee Bridgewater on Jazz Set  that appears on Sirius/XM radio and NPR.  Past guests include One for All, Charles McPherson, Mulgrew Miller, Terrell Stafford, Lenny Pickett, Leroy Jones, Lou Donaldson, Kevin Mahogany, Peter Bernstein,  Mike LeDonne, Dr Lonnie Smith, The David Hazeltine trio, Grant Stewart, Antonio Hart, Harry Allen, Michael Philip Mossman, Harold Mabern, Barry Harris, Benny Golson, Jerry Bergonzi Quartet,  and Guisando Caliente.
