Tremon Kizer Will Oversee UCF Athletic Bands
As the University of Central Florida's new Associate Director of Bands and Director of Athletic Bands, Tremon Kizer will oversee all aspects of the athletic band program and teach courses in music education.
Kizer is well-versed in university band programs. Previously, he oversaw the University of Dayton Marching Band, as well as its University Concert Band. In addition to being an active guest conductor and adjudicator, Kizer is also a leadership consultant who improves leadership skills for high school and college students.
As an award-winning educator, Kizer hopes his students take the skills they learn and apply them to every area of their lives. "I want to help our students become the best doctors, lawyers, educators, musicians, mothers, and fathers they can be," he said. "Hopefully, they will apply what they learn into their path of life."
Kizer earned his doctorate in Musical Arts from the University of South Carolina, his master of arts in music from the University of Central Missouri and his bachelors in music education from Kansas State University. He is also a member of the College Band Directors National Association, World Association for Symphonic Bands and Ensembles, the Florida Music Educators Association and Florida Bandmasters Association. He holds honorary membership in both Kappa Kappa Psi and Tau Beta Sigma.
With his new position at UCF, Kizer hopes to continue to build upon the standard of excellence established by previous directors, staff members, and students. He also plans to push the boundaries within programming and performance opportunities.
"I am excited about being at a university where the sky is the limit," he said. "With a student population who enjoys their athletic teams, a university community who believe in the importance of the arts, and a university that allows the faculty to be as creative as they want to be, there are limitless opportunities at such a wonderful university."
