UCF Summer Piano Camp

For Pianists age from 11-18 years old (age by July 21, 2014)

Dr. Yun-Ling Hsu - UCF Piano Professor

Ms. Ana Rosa Hernandez - Pianist, Certified K-12 OCPS music teacher and “Orff” method teacher (a member of “Central Florida Orff Chapter” and “American Orff-Schulwerk Association”)


Each student will receive major instruction in:
  • Daily private session with Dr. Hsu
  • Daily group session in a master class setting
  • Piano injury-preventive technique class
  • Piano literature / Music theory / Sight-reading classes
Additional Activities:
  • Group ensemble class
  • The rhythmic “Orff” approach of combining body movement, singing and the playing of instruments, such as xylophones and glockenspiels
Each student will also receive:
  • Daily practice time
  • Daily Complimentary snacks and drinks

All participants will perform in Master-classes and in a final recital at the end of the week.

All-State Preparation Clinic

UCF Music presents a free clinic on how to prepare for the Florida Bandmasters Association 2015 All-State Band and Jazz Band audition and the Florida Orchestra Association 2015 All-State Orchestra audition.

The clinic is FREE, but pre-registration is required.

  • UCF applied music faculty and guest instrumentalists will offer clinics on FBA 2015 All-State Band requirements for 7-8, 9-10, and 11-12 grades as well as Jazz Band requirements for 9-10 and 11-12 grades
  • Emphasis will be placed on All-State exercise preparation, tone production, technique development, scales, sight-reading strategies, and audition readiness
  • Students should bring instruments, All-State music, and be prepared to play
  • UCF will provide all the percussion instruments. Students are required to bring their sticks, mallets and music.

Violin Fiesta: Every Child Can!

UCF hosts the Suzuki Method's Every Child Can!©
Special Guest: Carrie Reuning-Hummel, master clinician from Ithaca College

Every Child Can!© is an introduction to Dr. Suzuki’s philosophy and its application to Suzuki education. For parents, teachers, prospective teachers and others, this six-hour course provides an inspiring, in-depth look at the Suzuki approach to teaching and learning.

Registration is required, and participants must attend the full six-hour course. Applicants are encouraged to apply early; class size is limited to 20 participants.

This course is required for all new Suzuki teachers, but open to non-teachers, prospective teachers, parents, administrators and all others interested in learning about Suzuki approach to education. It is not instrument-specific. Experienced Suzuki teachers are also encouraged to participate for renewed inspiration or review. For Suzuki Association of the Americas members, a credit will be given.

On Sunday, October 5, Ayako Yonetani will present two violin master classes: one for groups, and one for solo playing. Click here for more information on the master classes.

Violin Fiesta: Ayako Yonetani Master Classes

Ayako Yonetani presents two violin master classes: one for groups, and one for solo playing.

For each session, a limited number of violin or viola students will be chosen by taped audition. In order to be considered for participation, applicants are required to provide a YouTube audition clip, unless they have played in previous master classes.

Applications for the October 25 master class must be submitted no later than September 21.

Guests are welcome to join the class as observers.

The UCF Music Department is proud to announce the first UCF Piano Day. This will be a guest piano recital and a master class designed for Central Florida's classical piano students, teachers and enthusiasts. Admission begins at 1:15pm in the Visual Arts Building Auditorium and the guest recital will be at 2:00pm. The master class begins at 4:00pm and will take place in the Rehearsal Hall.

André Laplante

Canadian pianist André Laplante, hailed as one of the great romantic virtuosos, has performed extensively throughout Canada, the United States, Europe and Asia, and has released a series of ever more impressive CDs. UCF Flute Boot Camp

Friday, June 12, 2015 - Sunday, June 14, 2015

Cost: Tuition $150, Housing (optional) $100. Early registration discounts available

Flute Boot Camp is a three-day, intensive program designed to educate and inspire young flutists. Morning yoga and aerobics will be followed by breakout sessions. Daily master classes and individual coaching appointments provide continual and concentrated input from faculty.

An additional camp session will be held June 19-21.

UCF's Summer Flute & Piccolo Institute is a one-week, intensive program designed to educate and inspire young flutists (middle school or high school) through an interesting and cultivating curriculum that examines many aspects of flute and piccolo performance. Also, the Flute Pedagogy Course and Flute Master Class are designed for advanced players and professionals.

An additional camp session will be held June 22-26.

Flute Boot Camp is a three-day, intensive program designed to educate and inspire young flutists. Morning yoga and aerobics will be followed by breakout sessions. Daily master classes and individual coaching appointments provide continual and concentrated input from faculty.

An additional camp session will be held June 12-14.
