All-State Preparation Clinic

A clinic on how to prepare for the Florida Music Educators' Association 2016 All-State Band, Orchestra, and Jazz Band auditions

  • UCF applied music faculty and guest instrumentalist will offer clinics on FBA and FOA All-State Band and Orchestra audition requirements for 7-8, 9-10, and 11-12 grades as well as FBA Jazz Band auditions requirements for 9-12 grades
  • Emphasis will be placed on All-State exercise preparation, tone production, technique development, scales, sight-reading strategies, and audition readiness
  • Students should bring instruments, All-State music, and be prepared to play
  • UCF will provide all the percussion instruments. Students are required to bring their sticks, mallets and music.

The UCF Music Department is proud to announce the second UCF Piano Day. This will be a guest piano recital and a master class designed for Central Florida's classical piano students, teachers and enthusiasts. Admission begins at 1:30pm in the Rehearsal Hall and the guest recital will be at 2:00pm. The master class begins at 4:00pm.

Featured International Guest Pianist Oleg Poliansky

Oleg Poliansky was born in Kiev, Ukraine in 1968. He is prize winner of many international competitions, first of all of the international "Tchaikovsky Competition" in Moscow (Russia) in 1998. In addition to that, he won prizes in Tokyo (Japan) in 1986, in Montreal (Canada) in 1988, at "The international Duo Competition" in memoriam of Christian Ferras and Pierre Barbìzet in Marseille (France) in 1997, at the "World Pianno Competition" in Cincinnati (USA) in 1999 as well as at "Citta di Cantu" (Italy) in 1998 and 2003.

In the course of his career, Mr. Poliansky has made appearances at the largest international concert arenas and given concerts as a soloist with orchestras such as, The Moscow Soloists, The Moscow Sympony Orchestra, The National Symphony of Ukraine, The Novosibirsk Sympony Orchestra, the Urals Symphony Orchestra Yekaterinburg, Budapest Strings, Neue Philarmonie Westfallen, Sinfonietta Hungarica, Junge Philarmonie Köln, The National Orchestra of Malta, The KBS National Radio Orchestra of Korea, Pusan Philharmonic Orchestra and Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra with Myung-Whun Chung.

The Syrinx Trio came together in 2013 through their passion for double reed music with Nermis Mieses, oboe; Susan Nelson, bassoon; and Xavier Suarez, piano. The ensemble performs frequently at double reed events, on the radio, and at the 2014 International Double Reed Society Conference (IDRS). Syrinx strives to explore new repertoire written for this instrumentation. The group premiered Gaze by David Bixler at the 2014 IDRS conference in New York, and continues to work with composers for new, dynamic pieces.

UCF Opera is excited to present a production of Gaetano Donizetti's opera L'elisir d'amore [The Elixir of Love]. Elixir is a delightful fun comedy, and filled with some of opera's most beautiful melodic material! The story is about love and lust, jealousy and deceit, wine and beautiful countryside, in short - Italia bella!

Sung by UCF's Opera Workshop students in Italian, but with supertitles in English and an original tool we're calling "operahashtags" - a way of sharing each character's sub-textual thoughts with you, the audience! Guaranteed to be a joyful evening of amazing music! 2 performances on campus - April 23 at 7pm and 24 at 2pm.
