A Gift for Music and the UCF Music Department present a one-day, introductory course on the Suzuki philosophy and its application to education. For parents, teachers, prospective teachers and others, this course provides an inspiring, in-depth look at the Suzuki approach to teaching and learning.
About Michele Higa George
Michele Higa George serves the Suzuki Association of the Americas (SAA) as a teacher trainer, and has been a member of the SAA board and teacher development committee. She is executive producer of the award-winning documentary Nurtured By Love – the life and work of Shinichi Suzuki.
Ms. George designed and implemented the Master of Music at the Cleveland Institute of Music in Violin Performance and Suzuki Pedagogy in 1986 and served as the Director of the Sato Center for Suzuki Studies for sixteen years.
She has trained teachers throughout the United States and Canada, as well as assisting developing Suzuki programs in Central America, puerto Rica and Africa. Closer to home, Michele founded and co-directed East Cleveland Rainbow Suzuki Strings
Ms. George currently resides in Glenview, Illinois, where she served for two years as Director of the Suzuki program at the Music Institute of Chicago. she is currently serving as faculty mentor at the Merit School of Music, teaching in Merit’s Suzuki Alegre string program. the Suzuki Alegre tour group, featuring eighteen young musicians will be performing at the World Suzuki Conference in Matsumoto, Japan in March of this year.
