Ensemble Auditions

Band and Orchestra

Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band, and Symphony Orchestra

  • Open to all UCF students, regardless of major
  • Students interested in auditioning for placement in Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band, or Orchestra should prepare the materials and follow the audition procedures and calendar detailed below
  • Woodwind, Brass, Percussion, and Strings students should submit the online audition registration form prior to the start of auditions. String Students also need to email Dr. Park (chung.park@ucf.edu) to reserve an audition time slot.

Concert Band and University Band

  • Open to all UCF students, regardless of major
  • No audition is required for placement in Concert Band or University Band
  • Concert Band is offered both fall & spring semesters
  • University Band is offered only in the spring semester, each year

Audition Music

All woodwind, brass, and percussion students planning to audition should be at the Rehearsal Hall fifteen (15) minutes before the time listed for your instrument. Numbers will be drawn at that time to determine the order of audition.

Sign-Up Information

Please sign up for an audition time at room PAC-M126 any time after June 10.

Membership is open to all students of the university by audition at the beginning of each semester. For University Chorus auditions, you should be prepared to sing the first verse of "My County, 'Tis Of Thee" and sight-read. For Chamber Singers, please prepare a classical solo piece and bring a copy of the music. There is no audition requirement for Women's Chorus.

Audition Requirements

University Chorus

  • Music reading experience expected
  • Previous choral experience desirable
  • Be prepared to sing "My Country 'Tis of Thee" and sight read

Chamber Singers

  • Strong personal musicianship skills expected
  • Facility with languages desirable
  • Be prepared to sing a solo song of your choice in English or a foreign language and sight read

Men's and Women's Chorus

No audition required.

Jazz

Sign-Up Information

Sign-ups will be accepted on Professor Jeff Rupert's office door (PAC-M 117) during the week prior to auditions.

Audition Requirements

Auditions are mandatory for all jazz majors. These auditions are for two big bands and 5-6 chamber groups led by various jazz professors.

Auditions will include:

  • scale studies
  • sight reading
  • prepared pieces you have in contrasting styles (at most two)
  • improvisation
