Summer Flute & Piccolo Institute

High School & Middle School Summer Flute Camps One-week intensive flute performance program

TWO Sessions: June 13-17 and June 20-24, 2016

Campus Location: Rehearsal Hall and PAC 120M

The University of Central Florida Summer Flute & Piccolo Institute is a one-week intensive program designed to educate and inspire young flutists (middle school or high school) through an interesting and cultivating curriculum that examines many aspects of flute performance.

2016-2017 All-State Audition Requirements

Flute lyrical, technical and allscales.

If you want to play piccolo, you can add the All-State piccolo requirement in your audition.

Audition (high school only) will take place 2-4pm on the first day of camp, Section 1 June 13 and Section 2 June 20, in the Performance Arts Center, room M120.

Middle School Section

Warm-Up with Dr. García

Each day begins with a warm-up with Dr. Nora Lee García.

Middle school warm-up exercises will be provided during camp.

High school students can preview the advanced warm-up music.

Reminders

Please have your child bring:
  • Flute and piccolo (UCF will provide piccolos if you don't have one)
  • Reusable water bottle and 5x7 notebook.
  • Meals are not provided but the students will be taken to the Student Union for lunch each day.
  • Bring an extra T-shirt or set of work out cloth for the Zumba class

Sunday, June 12, 3-4pm and Sunday, June 19, 3-4pm

Rehearsal Hall

Parents and students will have an opportunity to ask questions and meet the staff. All County Music will display Flutes, piccolos and more.

Parking

Parking Garage I (next to PAC Music Building) for $5 per day, or metered parking behind the Music Building, in front of the Burnett Honors College and Rehearsal Hall. Printable UCF Campus Map.

Housing

Overnight campers will stay in UCF's Libra Community housing.

Drop-off for housing will be inside the Performing Arts Center - Music Building at the Box Office. Check-in times for housing are Sunday, June 12 and 19 at 3:00pm. Check-out times are Friday, June 17 and 24 at 8:00am.

Linens and towels are provided.

Pick-up is after the final concert at the Rehearsal Hall at 2:00pm.

Before/After Care

For parents who are unable to accommodate the regularly scheduled drop-off and/or pick-up times, before and after care is available for participants 8:00 to 9:00am and 3:00pm to 6:30pm. The cost is an additional $100 for the duration of the camp. For participants in both the Flute Boot Camp and Flute & Piccolo Institute, the cost is $140.

What to Bring

  • Flute and piccolo (If you don't have a piccolo, UCF will provide one)
  • Pencil
  • Small notebook 5x7 inches
  • Refillable plastic bottle
  • Headphones (1/8" stereo)
  • Extra shirt or workout clothes for the Zumba classes

    A flute orchestra is a group of flute players that will be covering all voices like a regular orchestra. In this institute, we will have:
    • Concert Flute in C
    • Piccolo
    • Flute in Bb
    • Flute in Eb
    • Alto
    • Bass
    • Contra Bass (7 in the whole United States)
    • The DOUBLE CONTRA (The only one in the whole United States)
    • NEW Contra Bass in G
  3. Will there be a fee for the final Concert?
    No, the concert is FREE and please invite as many guests as you like. This is a very unique experience.
  4. May I stay in the camp with my son/daughter?
    You are welcome to come and watch our sections.
  5. If I stay, what I could do so I don't get bored?
    On campus is a lovely Barnes & Noble and Student Union. Also, we are very close to Waterford Lakes Mall.
